(1,903 posts)What a joke. The only thing most of the MIC budget goes to is defending corporate profits. Change it back to the Department of War.

(32,064 posts)Looks like there was a pretty good slice for defense in this pie chart for 2012:
sulphurdunn
(6,891 posts)on the national debt will bankrupt the country as Rando has said, then the new 6.8% student loan rates will most definitely bankrupt this generation of college students. Oh, I forgot. They can't declare bankruptcy anymore than the government can. If you throw the state security apparatus into the DoD mix, actual defense spending is more like $1 trillion.

TBF
(32,064 posts)but the chart even in it's basic form shows that Rand is crazy. Helping a few hurricane victims is not a problem. Bailing out "too-big-to-fail-banks" to the tune of billions is a problem.

Yet another bratty, entitled "young gun" coming up behind his daddy with ambitions of his own to prove who really wears the biggest big-boy pants in the family. Gotta go one better than the old man.
Sheesh - what IS IT with these republi-CONS lately? We've had this crap from dubya, john mccain, mitt romney, even liz cheney's trying to lay her own groundwork. BELIEVE ME, she wouldn't stop at the Senator level, even if she succeeded that far. They all wanna best their dads to prove that THEY, and not him, are the head of the family now. The only thing this punk rand paul has on his dad is a little more hair (or is that some sort of scouring pad?) on the top of his head. And NOTHING underneath it.
Can't wait to watch this Kentucky Pipsqueak try to square off against chris christie! Anybody started the popcorn yet?

(3,709 posts)Nearly a year before Paul was elected, I passed a sign nailed to a fence in rural Scott County, just outside of Lexington, that said 'Rand Paul for Senate'. I remember laughing and thinking it would be a cold day in hell before even Kentucky voters elected that maniac. I was so wrong and I swear, I think he has a shot at the GOP nomination.
Scary, indeed....

(14,449 posts)I was way too young to vote but Good Lord you guys voted 49 states for Reagan his second term. Yep even Democrats voted for him in droves. Not sure what the heck happened but even some you guys on here voted for Reagan at least his second time. I am not sure what was wrong with Carter or Mondale for that matter. Mondale you guys really, really didn't want. What was wrong with him?????

(15,238 posts)I disagree, Rand Paul is a potential despot demagogue that would make the worst President in American history George W. Bush an idol of nostalgia for good governance. Given the Tea Party emergence something like Rand Paul was bound to come along. It will be interesting to see if Republicans will eventually realize what they created.
Rand Paul is really saying "Give it to me".

(23,105 posts)Like our national defense is sufferring such extremes that all the military industrial complex is closing down, no new weapons system in such a long time, they are all filing bankruptcy. LOL, NOT! Guess his militiary contributors missed out on buying their 3rd homes due to the minor decrease in spending so are calling him crying. Sheesh, we have the largest military in the entire world by many factors. His complaint is exactly backwards. What a maroon!
The Wizard
(12,545 posts)Close all military installations in Kentucky, and end all spending on Kentucky defense contractors. Kentucky is a parasite state while New Jersey is a donor state. Civil War reconstruction should have ended 100 years ago.

(7,403 posts)Would the Libertarian Party dare nominate Paul in 2016? Serious question because Paul's stance on national defense should be enough to set the hair on fire of any true Libertarian. Here Rand Paul sounds like a die in the wool neocon, which I have suspected all along.

Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)a pseudo-libertarian IMO. He calls himself a libertarian because he probably thinks that is what will get him a few crossover votes from disillusioned liberals or young people around my age who think he wants to legalize pot and is anti-war. IMO it's not very "libertarian" of him to go around proposing the defense budget to be beefed up even more, along with opposing women's access to contraceptives and gay rights, while supporting voter ID. And the last time I checked, the definition of libertarianism basically means championing individual freedoms. But Rand Paul's stances seem antithetical to that, except when it comes to giving more pocket change to corporations and letting criminals go hog-wild when it comes to their guns.
is such an idiot. geez oh and yeah, I cannot forget, he was VOTED into office by a majority of voters. No one to blame but the voters themselves......

(1,540 posts)The Rand's haven't a clue as to the break-out of actual Defense Budget. The majority of actual Military functions have been all "privatized," thus Corporate America is now controlling our Defense and its budget.....I give you Halliburton, Generl Dynamics, Lockheed, Blackwater, etc.,etc., etc. This Corporate Defense which now are official owners of The Pentagon. As private contractors, they are no longer considered employees of the US Taxpayer. They go unaudited and write their own individual contracts which omit any and all fines and allowing them to increase costs whenever they want.
The big question should be.......Why do we need Congress and the the Rand Paul's, who are ignorant or even worse, corruptible in their duties, failure to represent the people who elected them.

(9,688 posts)Nah, he's a militarist for convenience.
In reality he's a me-first, Rand (and Ron) Paul centric, egoist who hasn't a clue what terms like "the social/common good" mean, whose only thought in life is to ensure that whatever Rand/Ron Paul collect in life remains Rand/Ron Paul property, and let neighbors be fucked.
Not that the pinhead hypocrite doesn't suck at the US tit. He's a politician and that's what politicians do. Just that unlike more aware politicians, he doesn't figure he should give anything back. Unlike any conscientious worker, he has no plans to pay back what he collects.
The absolute fucktardery of the man knows no bounds.

(6,819 posts)Some of those houses appear OK from the street, but they had to be gutted on the inside and are uninhabitable. In many cases, it was because private insurance companies have delayed payment, and the feds typically won't provide funding for costs that were insured.
