Published on Aug 2, 2013
Radar indicated over 4" of rainfall south of Page AZ the after noon of August 2nd, 2013. The runoff overtook drainage pipes under HWY89 near Maverick in Page. The flows followed the highway down to maverick before finding another outlet to drain down. Many people were caught off guard by this water which deposited massive amounts of sediment on roadways and parking lots.

(20,776 posts)Salt Lake City, which sits kind of at the bottom from the mountains, we had flooding there. Water was at least three foot deep, and cars were covered past the tires.
I was also in Santa Barbara one year when we had a massive amounts of rainfall. I guess the jet stream had shifted that year, so normally Seattle would get that rainfall, but it came to California instead.
Downtown Santa Barbara had flooding very badly and the man made ducts that lead the water out to the Pacific Ocean were topped with water. Normally they are around 16 to 18 feet deep. It was so scary seeing so much water, that water rushed by. It reminded me of the river that goes over Niagara Falls!
We had 3 feet of floodiing where I worked, fortunately outside! You have to walk up steps to get to the office, and the water had come up three of the steps easy. Cars in the parking lot had water well past their tires. That flooding by the way, was followed up by a mud slide that covered one road and put it out of commission for at least several weeks.
Glad I am back in San Francisco...being in floods is not fun.

(59,579 posts)I've always wanted to see a desert flash flood - from a canyon rim or someplace similarly secure!
Thanks for the link.

(12,409 posts)thought were jets flying down the canyon. The small canyon just upriver from us was the source and we watched trees and 4 foot wide boulders tumble down into the river like a freight train. This was on a cloudless day and the source of the rain was miles away.
