Serve

Watch “Serve” highlighting the incredible story of Alejandro Morales, a young undocumented immigrant who was brought to the United States when he was only seven months old. Alejandro was the highest ranking cadet in Chicago JROTC and his biggest dream is to serve his county in the U.S. Marines. He is an American; this is the only country he’s ever known. He wants to serve and protect his country, but our broken immigration system prevents him from doing so because he is an undocumented immigrant:

He wants to risk it all so he can defend a country that largely doesn't give a damn about him. He's either very selfless or very stupid. Probably equal shares of both. That statue behind him represents what was probably the last real and necessary war America was involved in. Since then it's been one utterly stupid shitstorm after another. We haven't learned anything from those conflicts either, nor have we made any real strides in taking care of our soldiers when they return home.

So what do we tell this kid instead of "Keep your chin up!".....fuck if I know.

I guess I just don't see the heroism/success in fighting a dictator we formerly supplied with weapons.

It couldn't be because we keep trying to control them is it? No of course not. They just hate us because we like apple pie and freedom.
