Related: About this forumRichard Wolff explains the economy like it is...not (particularly) like we're told it is
I like listening to Wolff's monthly messages....always good, easily understandable, laced with history....well, just very interesting. He also gives his viewpoints on what we're going to need to do the correct problems like inequality of income.

(19,326 posts)My graduate work was studying and writing thesis on the value of worker-owned enterprises
in terms of employment stability, % of profits retained in local economy, etc. as opposed to
"locally owned" (by conventional owners), and also "absentee-owned" companies (where the
locus of ownership/control is more than 50 miles from the plant).
Worker ownership was demonstrably more beneficial to workers and to their local community,
than were the other two classes of ownership. Worker-ownership IS the way to transform
capitalism into a people-friendly & environmentally-friendly phenomenon.
I hope he stays focused on this, and goes BIG with it, asap.. Lord knows we need this change.

(14,656 posts)but I love the way he makes it all so easy and PLAIN to understand....enough
so that I can explain matters to friends, etc. I, too, believe in worker/ownership.
Way to go and to get profits equitably distributed.
When he talks of outsourcing white collar jobs...whoa!....and it's ties with education
I am really worried. I knew about blue collar outsourcing but never realized the other.
We must do something. Unfortunately, I believe any real change
will take decades but that's better than going down the rabbit hole!

(19,326 posts)I'll take the change at whatever pace it wants
to happen, sometimes slow, sometimes very
fast. and everything in between, beyond the
rabbit hole.

hope you're right!

(12,778 posts)Thousands of engineering/IT jobs have been shipped overseas. Some of us have experienced this firsthand.
It's not just engineering and IT....any job can be outsourced if it doesn't require you to be physically present.
It's why a lot of us are livid when Hillary says there are "advantages" to outsourcing.
The "advantages" go to the CEOs and shareholders, NOT the working stiffs.
What, exactly, are engineers and IT people supposed to train for after their jobs have been outsourced?
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)to the video, it really HIT me. Wolff talked about folks going to foreign countries
to be treated by doctors, some of whom have been trained in the states, for much
cheaper rates on medical procedures. Sorry, if I offended you...

(18,998 posts)But he is great and I think did a great job of framing the problem and the solutions...
But I fear he will not be listened to by many...expecialy those in power, and the system will have to collapse first before such things are considered...but I can hope not.
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)there are many of his videos on Youtube....this one is a particular
favorite of mine. He's VERY concerned about the economy and yet
hopeful...at least he isn't giving up.

(18,998 posts)But they could not be more detailed and complete than that one I think...he really covered it all.

I was unaware of Wolff having 'monthly' messages....can you expand? thanks very much for posting.

(14,656 posts)from those or click on the clock face icon to watch later. Voila! He's so good.
Repeats some but that is ok with me...he still leads in and tells things in different
ways that helps my old mind retain it! If you need help, PM me. Glad you enjoyed
the video.

(17,301 posts)You didn't know he was missing, did you? Just kidding
But really he explains economics in such a way that even I could understand it. He takes economics back down to the people level. It's not just numbers and made up words to hide real information. He uses normal words and numbers only when he needs to.
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)down to the people level' without talking down....I like that.

(5,927 posts)Also I get a kick out of the fact that Wolff reminds me very much of Vincent Gardenia, one of my favorite character actors.

(49,988 posts)He stops short of how to democratize capitalism.
The %1 aren't going to freely give their power to the people.
