...the rich and powerful know that they will be dead when the proverbial "shit hits the fan" ....so their feelings are "Why should we care"

It's nothing to do with ignorance.there are vested interests that simply don't want a bar of anything that reduces the value of what they've got. That's why the same people are trying to get hold of water rights. They don't give a shit until it affects them.The old saying "follow the gold" comes to mind. It's only the ignorant that give them the power and until people are educated to clearly think things out the same old people will dominate our lives,unfortunately for the worse!I still cannot fathom working class people ever voting conservatives in ,but they do it again and again in many countries .FFS wake up people before it's too late.
