The easiest, simplest and best thing the President can do is to stop defending mass surveillance and come clean about what the NSA has been doing. No more bullshit about how these programs have saved lives and all that blah, blah, blah. The saddest part about the last few months for me, at least, is listening to Dick Cheney's voice coming out of Barack Obama's head.

To all the sophists -- mostly with three-digit post counts -- who want to tell us who cherish American democracy that our real problem is that we just don't like a black President looking at our dirty downloads, in spite of the fact that almost all of us voted for him twice, I say just shut up. If you want to tell us we're a bunch of disloyal Democrats because we happen to agree with the Pauls on this one issue, I say go peddle your pickled herring somewhere else. I am not eating it.
