This is why free trade will never work unless it is also fair trade with a lot of teeth in the law to bite violators like Hanes jobbers back, along with the CEO who moved the jobs over there in the first place.
This is also what Republicans want to bring back to the US--child labor with no wage floor for anyone and no laws to protect any worker of any age at any job.

(22,666 posts)THIS is what our John Bircher/Republican/ALEC/Tea Party friends would love to see as common practice in the United States. After all, child labor used to be very common here. If anyone buys Hanes products they may want to reconsider. Just recently, Republicans stated they wanted to abolish child labor laws - which ONLY EXIST BECAUSE OF UNIONS. Republicans have also very recently advocated for abolishment of the minimum wage WHICH ONLY EXISTS BECAUSE OF UNIONS. A lot of people - even Democrats - consider labor unions unnecessary now. They had better think again. Anyone who votes Republican supports this. I'm sure THEIR "God" approves. My own conscience is my "God" and my God vehemently disapproves.
Poor sweet child.

(10,495 posts)It's all gone crazy! Many Union members here in the heart of petrochemical country are very well paid with lots of time off. They have forgotten or never knew what their predessesors went through to get the benefits and protections they have. Now they mostly listen to Rush Limpballs and vote Republican. Their leadership cannot get them to attend meetings or campaign for Democrats. Very sad!
