that all the deaths and hardships that Mexico is wrestling with are OUR (the USA's) fault. If there were NO market here for drugs, these folks could pursue their laid back lifestyle without a second thought. Our market and our STUPID efforts to quell it are the cause of death and woe from the Rio Grande, south.

From what I understand NAFTA flooded Mexico with cheap corn forcing many off their land and into low paid factory jobs that NAFTA also conveniently helped create.
Cousteau before he died was trying to influence how "economic development" money was spent in "non-western" countries, that is in ways that fit their economy and values, not creating mini-Americas around the world.
