(55 posts)Instead the surface to air missiles and F-15s will do all of the jobs and just like with Libya, the goal is to give the rebels an upperhand. They said the chemical round was shot of via an artillery round but they are talking about bombing air fields, weapons depot and military units.

(20,776 posts)Like Bush-Cheney said, it would be quick, in and out..Shock and Awe. No problem!!
But if I was a betting man, I would bet my money on Obama not following the Bush/Cheney route. See unlike in Iraq or Afghanistan, we already have well armed and formidable fighters attacking the govt. These guys have tank, artillery units and limit less supply of Jihad fighters. The only thing they lack is an air force and if we can provide that superior air power for 1-2 weeks, the rebels will win the war.
This is exactly what they did in Libya and this is exactly how I see them operating in Syria. Obama will not make the mistake of using US troops because he doesn't want the much worse public backlash that will come with the death of any US service personnel. This war will be over in 6 months if the air force goes in.

(20,776 posts)There was some place I saw on DU today, that the US Marines were stationed near the Syria Border, ready to go...
So much for not sending any troops in. If I could find that post, I would link you to it.
