Some politicians wait to take right stand on big time issues.
1. LBJ told Martin Luther King and the civil right movement to create the environment where supporting cvil rights was politically the right thing to do.
2. Obama waited until the gay rights movement created the circumstances where supporting marriage equality was the right thing to do.
On another note its okay to grow on an issues and admit you are wrong.
The Onion did a hilarious peace where god says "I have a gay son and support gay marriage" Where god show how he changed his mind.
