That's how much the rich and powerful hated him.

I think it would be more accurate to say the Bob Dylan of the 60s was the north's Victor Jara, though. That's how powerful and amazing his songs are.

Victor Jara was also a boxer, playwright, and university professor. He would be like Dylan, Ali, Shakespeare, and Zinn all rolled into one.

A friend's father was a student of Victor Jara at University of Santiago at the time of the coup. Tears come to his eyes when Victor Jara's name is mentioned. He's not comfortable talking about those days,( he was able to escape to Brazil), but I hope one day he can tell his story so its not forgotten.

I am looking forward to this documentary.

The way Jara touched so many, not just through his music but through who was as a human being.

I hope the documentary does him justice in telling his story.

So throw in some Abbie Hoffman.
Chile is much smaller than the US, so its difficult for us to grasp the immense popularity and influence he had in Chile. No wonder the Chilean military junta tortured and executed him. He likely would have been elected President in a restored Chilean democracy.
