on edit: because of a vague reference that made sense only to me, I mean this as a shot at republican women who feel they have to strive for that fake Stepford wives look (they don't have to fake the lack of soul). I am sorry for offending blondes.

(51,557 posts)By blond, I mean that distinctly yellow color you see in kids' hair and this idiot Rep. As people age, that towhead look goes to a sandy light brown. The uniform bright yellow blond look does not exist in nature in people above thirty.
RebelOne
(30,947 posts)I am a natural blonde, but wanted more dramatic colors. But now that my hair is turning gray, the gray blends in with the blonde, so I only have to color my hair every three or four months.
RebelOne
(30,947 posts)As a blonde, I consider that a very derogatory remark.

(34,582 posts)I meant it as a shot at how female republican politicians all seem to aim for that plastic Stepford Wives look. Sorry that vagueness on my part caused a misunderstanding. I will edit my post to make it a bit clearer.

(28,498 posts)There was a time I had respect for members of Congress. Not anymore...
SunSeeker
(51,557 posts)But I agree, there are NO GOP members of Congress deserving respect. Anyone who is a Republican is either an idiot or an asshole or both.
Careful about adopting the false equivalence "pox on both houses" language of the MSM. ONLY the GOP wants to kill the ACA and sabotage government.
KansDem
(28,498 posts)It's just that the respect I had for the legislative, judicial, and executive branches is no longer "automatic." Now they have to earn my respect, especially in the wake of Citizens' United, Bush v. Gore, the Iraq Invasion, free-trade agreements, the bank bailouts, and all the reports and exposés that have come to light in recent years of corporate welfare, tax cuts for the wealthy, outsourcing jobs and secret off-shore accounts. All gifts from the three branches of "government of, for, and by the people."
SunSeeker
(51,557 posts)Only the GOP-appointed conservatives on SCOTUS voted in the majority in Bush v. Gore. The Bush tax cuts were passed on pretty much a party line vote. H.R.2 in 2003 was passed without a single Dem vote in the Senate.
Dems will vote with the GOP, but usually it is because they are getting the GOP to agree to something progressive in return. For example, Dems have voted for the Farm Bill, that gives corporate welfare to rich farmers, because in return the Bill provides food stamps to the poor. The GOP for the first time this year refused to go along with that historic bargain, dropping the food stamp provisions from the bill. That is why the Farm Bill did not get the Dem votes needed to pass this year.

They are not doing the country's business, there is no shield.
If they fail for more than three days to do what they were elected to do, there should be an automatic election in their district as they should be considered to have abandoned their job (just as would happen to the rest of us).

(12,265 posts)If they lost their pay and benefits they would get their butts to the table in a hurry! They are ALL totally out of touch with regular people.
I remember an episode of Cosby when Cliff used Monopoly money to show Theo what it really costs to live. One of his lines was "I'll take 300 for taxes they come for the regular people first". These people need the same lesson on what it takes for "regular people" to live. Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment, with insurance the day cost me $240. Our income hasn't gone up that much in 5 years. "regular people".
