Of the last three Democratic presidents, Carter (ironically too honorable and a true Christian...despite the theft of "Christian values" by the Republicans) was all too easy to dispose of, for the very reason of his values. Clinton basically was "slick Willy" because he was way smarter than any of his opponents, and had the charm to go with his brains (something lacking in most other political intellectuals). The slightly southern accent helped(!). Obama is (God forbid) our first "Black" president. Actually he's every bit as much White as Black and was raise by white grandparents. It really isn't about his being Black, a very outdated designation for someone with ANY drop of "Negro" blood. Way down in the lizard brain of right wingers, President Obama isn't just Black, he's a representative of a scary multi-racial
future. My daughter, now mid-thirties, grew up in a university town with two good friends who had mixed heritage (one white parent, one black or Asian). Of the four parents, three were highly educated professionals. Right wing bigots (and yes, that's what they are) will continue to violently kick and scream into the coming century. How long will reasonable minds continue to give them control?
