America is being robbed. Bailouts, Subsidies, Tax breaks, Outsourcing etc America is being plundered by the banks. They have capitalized on a crisis they created.
Houses all over the country that have been foreclosed on, are now being rented out at exorbitant rates by banks who created the housing crisis. Wages have plummeted. More people are doing more work for less money as layoffs continue and positions are combined. Inflation is rampant, even fully employed households are struggling to pay bills and keep food in the fridge. Seniors are choosing between medication and gas. AMERICA HAS BEEN PLUNDERED AND THE CONSERVATIVES ARE THRILLED!

Any HofR member who leaves Washington before something is done to stop this madness deserves to be removed. And if that means arrest, so be it. Otherwise, it will only get worse. We are living through a bloodless coup.

(225 posts)Nafta, WTO, Raiding Social Security, Tax Cuts, Subsidies, Bailouts, etc were supported BY BOTH PARTIES.
I can think of one Senator, Sanders, who is about the only person advocating anything worthwhile. Meanwhile everyone else is worried about "negotiating" with business, banks and LOBBYISTS.

(225 posts)I was hoping you would explain to me how both parties aren't responsible for the things I listed, that BOTH PARTIES VOTED FOR!
NAFTA, WTO COMMITMENTS(OUTSOURCING, UNEMPLOYMENT, DEPRESSED WAGES), BAILOUTS, SUBSIDIES, TAX CUTS ETC.
I just don't see how any solution is going to present itself if we pretend one party, that had a majority, is given a free pass.

(7,865 posts)1) GATT, WTO and NAFTA were largely supported by a pack of Conservative democrats that reached across the aisle and made deals with republicans.
Progressive Democrats and the base of the democratic party has always been suspicious of free trade agreements. By suggesting that in your 'pox on both houses' list you blur the lines considerably.
It is also worth pointing out that many of the blue dog democrats that were free trade fanatics are now out of office and have taken up lobbying as their occuption.
2) Even moderate to conservative Democrats have come out in favor of an increase to the federal minimum wage.
3) The Bailout was started under a republican and continued under a Democrat. Ideally that should have come with a lot of strings and regulations attached that would have assured better lending practices and reformed wallstreet. Again, the blue dogs and republicans united to hamstring reform.
4) etc. etc
Rather than blaming parties why not actually look at the root of the POLICY you are describing? That policy is supply side economics and trickle down crap. Surely you can get more done by pointing that out than this lame "pox on both houses crap"
But as was said earlier by a more articulate poster (and what I have observed in conservatives in some of my social groups) is that when conservatives start losing they start making equivalency arguments and ranting about how both parties are to blame. It is childish, unnuanced, and not terribly thoughtful or useful.
Supply side economics, free market fundamentalism, and plutocracy are the real enemies and one part stands above all for more of that crap.

(7,865 posts)1) you have not counted or sorted the votes by party.
2) you have not ascertained which democrats tht did vote for Nafta were blue dogs.
Basically you really haven't presented much more than a set of lists without elaboration or proper commentary. A cursory glance indicated to me that most of those that voted against Nafta were in fact democrats. So actually your position is the one that is completely invalidated.
The fact that ANYONE voted against it kills your argument completely!

(225 posts)It is one piece of legislation among many. They fact that REPUBLICANS AND DEMS voted against it means nothing when they voted for other dumb shit and pork spending.
I don't worship parties, and don't care to continue debating with someone who does.

(26,219 posts)before Dems realized the "we TOLD you so" the netroots was screaming about playing along with GOP hostage taking - that it would just encourage more of the same. Here in the fall of 2013 - we were right (not that it took a magic 8-ball to come to that obvious conclusion). Kudos to Reid and Obama for standing their ground this go-round, even though we are watching our foreign allies and investors backing off in droves because this country has proven that we will allow the screaming 2 year olds to control the conversation yet once again (looking at you, GOP).
Ratigan is off the air now and moved from NYC to CA where he is funding a massive hydroponic/organic farming initiative. Dude had a Libertarian streak (likely his years on CNBC before moving to MSNBC) & he was heading for a coronary after he moved from finance to politics. Glad he is happy now. I miss his voice - even if I did't always agree with him.

I used to enjoy Dylan but seeing this clip reminds me of his rantings which often threw blame where it didn't belong.

(26,219 posts)about kicking the can to 2017 - my immediate thought was false equivalency and his Libertarian streak. Before I posted it in the video forum, I watched it a few more times to be certain, and decided I was wrong. Even if he didn't realize it at the time, I came to the idea that his frustration was in that the GOP was setting precedence on how they would negotiate going forward if they forced us to show our hands. He may not have realized it at the time either, but whatever he sensed - he was right and here we are again, but 2.25 years later.

In the case of congress it is big money, on which they depend to keep their jobs, just like the cops.
Like the man says, until we get money out of politics they are not working for us and acting in our best interest...we need to recognize this before anything will change.

(10,495 posts)We allow legal bribery to determine our "Representatives," a term I use loosely since most, not all, are bought and paid for. Citizens United made it even worse. The U.S. chamber of Commerce has been working for 30 plus years getting RW Judges and local, state, and national politicians elected! Our media is mostly owned by fewer than 10 corporations. Why do you think 3 out of 4 major corporations pay zero in taxes? They have the tax code written for them.
We need publicly funded elections which would be no easy feat to achieve. This is the ROOT CAUSE of most of our problems! Dylan screwed up and spoke the truth, I think this rant was the beginning of the end for him. I never get tired of watching it though!
