Related: About this forumThis is what we have to deal with in The South.
BTW it was made just down the street from me. As is Walt Disney..in my father's time ... Productions.
We now have Cartoon Nation and Nickelodeon.
I do live in a silly town
For more reasons than one.....
PS At this moment I wish I could have my Mickey Mouse and Piglet and Peter Bergman back .. but that is just personal.

(3,452 posts)It's always someone not from here who keeps telling us we can't forget forget about it. We'd sure like to but we just continually get reminded about something that happened 150 years ago. I remember in middle school asking whose side we had been on and turns out that is complicated since my state was very divided and half of it tried to secede from the confederacy (after the state initially went with the north and then changed). None of my ancestors fought for he confederacy but I am continually told at DU that I am an ignorant racist who can't forget the civil war because I live in TN. And, of course, Democrats should cut off the south. Yep, it's a big tent around here at times. Not everyone, but lots of bigots left.

(16,254 posts)I was watching a video someone posted of people from the South and thinking of their comments, such as the South would rise again.
My great-grandfather was a captain in the Civil War for the North. In fact, he was a POW for a few months. That is about the only time I even think of the CW is when I work on the family history.
They lived through it with so many battles on their home turf. I can understand why they are so adamant about it, but we DO need to move on and get away from this Hatfield and McCoy attitude.
Peace, my friend.

(3,452 posts)No problem. There is a small group on DU who like to fuel that old north-south discord by trotting out the stereotypes and saying all the liberals in the south are not worth having in the party. After awhile we can get prickly. Glad you aren't part of that gang!

(52,791 posts)You guys have to be strong enough to buck the "common widsom" conservatism as WELL as the crazy wing-nutz.
AND you are in a place where the best work can be done.
You refer anyone who brushes off you guys to ME.
I LOVES me some liberal southerners! Seriously.

(3,452 posts)It's nice to feel wanted! All those flaming threads about abandoning the south kinda gives you that "nobody loves ya" feeling. There are so many great, hard working liberals here. Come visit!

(30,947 posts)I was born in Pennsylvania, but was moved by my parents to Miami, FL, when I was 5 years old. Lived Miami until 1989 and then migrated to the Atlanta, GA, area. So I am a northerner by birth, but the South is where my heart is.

(10,602 posts)Could not make this cartoon today without an uproar. I posted something recently about some of the people in the tornado zone who identify them selves as Republicans or Teabagger being faced with accepting the kind of government assistance they claim to hate anc criticize others for taking. Kasich even turned down federal help for a short time. And it got a lot of negative feedback.
Or like Texas now complaining about losing federal funds because they want to exclude Planned Parenthood and essentially contraception from the Medicaide money they would get.
The Civil War war will not be over for another 200 years.
