is fear itself. A sentence I find resonates with a lot of people nowadays.

"Century of the self" very enlightening. It focuses more on how it shapes us as consumers (and consumers only), but that is an equally powerful abuse as the political one this docu focuses on.

And what's more, challenging these shadow groups is extremely hard to do. But changing our consumer ways only requires awareness.

You could see it in full here: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-century-of-the-self/ and I've often linked to it over years.

But then I check it out and the video has disappeared. It's also hard to find on youtube in any coherent form. Someone makes a youtube vid saying "we're not allowed to show this, check the link". It's a vimeo link and it's been dead since two days...

Scrubbing going on, it looks like.

And I did find a Youtuber by the name of EconomicCrisisReview who has posted the documentary in segments.

- I'm in the process of Dedroidying myself. I'd say I'm about 50% the way there.

I'm under the impression I'm far along that road, but that may just be a convenient illusion

Gonna check that out.

In fact it takes very little to keep yourself from falling for their crap. You don't see the rich and powerful falling for the propaganda. It's not as if the moment you see it you are under a spell.

All you need is awareness of it and it NO Longer has control over you.

Remember, obedience is NOT your friend

True. Simple, yet very hard to accept that much of what you believe to be true is propaganda. That much of what you desire isn't based your "own" desire, but projections to keep you consuming happily away (and becoming a debt slave unless you watch out). So cognitive dissonance plays a role.

But you make a very good point. The power pointed out in this thread has had a tremendous impact, but the simple act of awareness can undo it. That's a very nice way to reframe this positively.

entirely when I have the time. I also need to check the books mentioned for further reading in the OP video.

The one that I had in mind to read first, Gustave Le Bon's "The crowd", apparently can be read online, here:
