Europe freezes as snow snap stretches

euronews (in English) ·Published on Feb 5, 2014

Tens of thousands of homes are without power across Europe as storms and chilling temperatures wreak havoc.

In northern France, gale force winds of some 140 km/h have battered the coast of Brittany.

Blocked roads and fallen trees have forced emergency workers to be on alert around the clock.

Authorities in Ireland have declared severe flood warnings, meaning danger to life, as a result of the extreme gales and storms.

No such thing as climate change because of human use of fossil fuels. That's crazy! This is the world. This is me. Why can't the PTB see past the bottom line. It's time to take care of our world. Not keep destroying it and we the people who inhabit it. We have to change our expectations of human entitlement. No cars and trucks running on fossil fuels. Mass, mass transit where possible. Figuring out how people can move from a to b with the smallest carbon footprint. Why are the greed capitalist profit mongers allowed to destroy the only inhabited planet within trillions and trillions of miles of space making up our 'known' universe?

To a layman such as myself, the problems associated with diminishing our carbon footprint seems insurmountable, considering how this world currently operates. Yet, if we can have robots, on the martian surface, still working after ten years we can do something about our destructive presence on this planet. We have minds. We can reason things out. We can solve the insurmountable with a little work.

I'm sure science and engineering can figure this out. Yes, our lifestyles WILL HAVE TO CHANGE. But at least we'll have a planet to nurture and take care of. I'm 66. I've seen a lot of change happen in my years here. Some good and like global warming, some bad. When I attended Boston U., even after a tour in Vietnam, I had idealism. I believed I could change the world. I studied hard, attended my classes and generally believed in good things. So my writing this may reflect some of that idealism and, happily, I'm not ashamed or too cynical to appreciate this little peep from time gone past.

We can save our planet if enough caring humans rise up in righteous indignation and say to the profit mongers, enough. We want our world and you can't do this to us anymore. All we have to do is stand up and be heard as a majority that want to survive and want our mother earth to survive. We can do this people. I know we can.
