era. I was astounded that his folksy, avuncular persona even sucked in some of the aging, less educated liberals. Not those who'd been left wing rabble rousers in their day, but those who'd loved FDR and had grown up benefiting from his presidential years. Some even thought Reagan had been a "union guy" due to SAG. This wasn't most people of liberal bent, but enough of those old timers (more inclined to vote) to be scary. Who was really paying attention to California when he'd been governor. Whether or not he was in charge of his mental facilities, or a right wing puppet makes little difference to the destruction that resulted. Only recently have Republicans been backing off the Reagan idolatry that so has characterized the last couple of decades for them. That has always said it all for for their party. Who was Ike? Even Nixon had better achievements for the country. The sainted Ronnie and Clint Eastwood talking to an empty chair : the most benign aspects of the modern (Cruz, Gomert(sic), Palin, Paul,Ted Nugent Republican party.

And as usual, nobody listened to us. He was just a little too "adorable" for words. OR for even a near-miss of a whiff of critical thinking.
