Net Neutrality R.I.P. (1969 - 2014)

Published on May 1, 2014

"The Federal Communications Commission is proposing we pave over the open internet with a 'fast lane' reserved for those who can afford to travel in style. And make no mistake, lobbyists and ex-lobbyists are the ones in the ditches with neon orange vests, tearing up the flat, even ground on which the internet was built."

[ok][li[Like HatTrick, I, too, am using Firefox, and have had no problem accessing DU; and

  • Mozilla Firefox is a browser application, not a service provider. It is merely the software interface used to browse the web. It does not provide Internet access, nor does it control it. If there are web sites you cannot see using Firefox that you can see using other browsers (such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari or Opera), then the problem likely lies either in your Firefox settings, corruption in your browser cache, or an errant cookie. Also, sometimes, the problem might just be with the site itself, or with a routing table that was not properly updated on one of the hops between your PC and the destination site.[/ol\

Assuming you are not just shilling for some other company's browser product, try the following:

    1. Close Firefox.
    2. Open Firefox (one tab only), and got to a site that you can access and that is different from the one you are trying to access.
    3. On the menu bar, Click 'Tools,' then 'Options.' IN the window that opens up, click on "Advanced" (one of the options along the very top of the window). Now click on the tab labeled "Network." In the section labeled "Cached Web Content," click on the button labeled "Clear." This will empty your browser cache.
    4. Again clikc on 'Tools," and then 'Options.' This time, go to the tab labled "Privacy." Close to the bottom of the panel, you will see a sentence that reads:

"You may want to clear your recent history or remove individual cookies.

Click on the "remove individual cookies" option.
    5. In the window that pops up, in the field laBeled "Search," type "democraticunderground" (without quotation marks), then click on the button at the bottom of the window that is labeled, "Remove all cookies."
    6. Close and reopen Firefox, and try going to Democratic Underground again. If that hasn't fixed the problem, then your issue is with your Internet service provider, not with Mozilla.
