(3,065 posts)We would be the new saviors. Nobody thinks about electricity until it's gone. Then they're pissed off because they don't have an electrician in the family.

(1,186 posts)Not quite nobody. I installed a backup generator on my house a couple of years ago. When the power goes out, my house shines like a beacon of freedom. Then my neighbors all come over and ask me "Can I plug in?" It's nice to control the power once in a while.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"](1) Preserving the landscape by providing trenches for underground lines & cables.
(2) The bit about water collection/treatment.
(3) Manufacturing jobs utilizing mountains of recycled materials for an almost endless project. Replacing the country's network of paved roads, sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways with these solar gizmos will take decades, guaranteeing thousands of long-term jobs.
Now get ready for the nay-sayers and reTHUGli-can'ts. They won't want the status quo to change for established concrete/asphalt pavers or the fossil fuel-based generating companies who hate clean energy.
They're afraid of any change that doesn't generate immediate increased profits, won't step outside their limited experience towards something new, and absolutely don't want to upset the entrenched business entities who will most certainly oppose rather than embrace this new technology.
Let's do this!

(39,215 posts)prototypes started all over the country. They did say this should start one driveway at a time. Has anyone looked into how much this actually costs?
