what's with the 5% of Democrats who could not live on it, but still don't support raising it????

The Republicans, I can excuse because they are asses.

but what I see is 80% who think that they could not live on minimum wage, and only 75% who want to increase it. That leaves 5% who are making no sense at all.

Sort of like interning, or maybe as some sort of allowance - basically compensation for unskilled, non-critical chore or project that you couldn't find a friend to volunteer to do and figured you would need to pay your kids an allowance if you wanted it done.

No one is supposed to live off a minimum wage.

That's what Liebritarians and Republicants say all the time. No responsible person who needs to pay rent or support a family works for minimum wage in their world...

Or if that's the only job they could find, it's just bad luck and only temporary until they get their act together, or until some rich guy gets enough of a tax break he can afford to hire them (and just them - not those other lazy moochers who are driving wages down because they're lying about their qualifications) at the wages they deserve to be paid.

Did I forget the ?

This country has a serious economic problem coming up, and it's not just based on wages or wealth, it's based on how the resources our citizens as a whole are used to the greatest economy. We sacrifice and waste so much of the potential of the average person in the pursuit of the Almighty dollar...

which seems to be the most often used these days. Minimum wage earners are all those people who can't pass a drug test to get a "real" job.

On talk radio in this area, it has gone from "half the applicants can't pass a drug test" to "we get no applicants who can pass a drug test". I am not saying that there may be a lot of people who could not pass, but 100% is not in the realm of possibility. They are just upping the meme.

Dollar just about the most important thing there is. It doesn't matter who you hurt to make your fortune, if you're rich, they respect you.

And if you have family? Fuggedaboutit!

You'd need roommates, and plenty of them, to make the rent and utilities--so privacy? Fuggedaboutit!

You'd need to become skilled at using public transportation (a problem if you live in a rural area) or get good at pedaling a bike, because it's too costly to manage a car note on that wage...so car ownership? Fuggedaboutit!

You'd need to get very good at hitting the food pantries and grocery basket places run by charities and communities, because paying full price for decent food in the supermarket? Fuggedaboutit!

I'm betting the Big Talking 31% of Republicans who claim they could live off of minimum wage are talking out their asses, asses that would shrink exponentially the longer they stayed on minimum wage, owing to the pedalling and stair climbing and sneaker driving they'd have to do when their Lexus or BMW or other luxury ride was taken away from them.

Of course, if they're living off their ill-gotten INVESTMENTS, they probably don't need the lousy minimum wage, anyway!!! Mendacious cretins!

They sort of think it's the "Christian" thing to do to make some people suffer, but not Republicans, themselves. They would not want to live on minimum wage, but don't want to lift wages for others that have to do that.

What is the word for that? Oh yes, the word that describes all Republicans everywhere: hypocrites.

Don't we think that if the minimum wage hike was just for Anglos, more Repugs would support it?

It's apparent that the Repugs didn't support such a hike because a) it's a Dimocrat (evil) agenda thing, and b) it will help too many of "the wrong people".

63% of Republicans lack empathy and only care about, "ME, ME, ME". I've thought as much for many years, and survey after survey has confirmed that most Republicans are inhumane assholes.

Maybe they assume they could just live off the trust fund until they got a better job.

Of course I'm assuming that 31% of Republicans aren't already living off the minimum wage.
