OP

(8,445 posts)1. I suppose you could fill one channel with atheist topics
But atheism is not itself a world view; its a stance on a single question. And since the answer to the question is NO, they risk being perceived as a fount of negativity.
It would have been far healthier, IMO, for Americans to revisit humanism as an alternative to religion.

(3,688 posts)2. I agree
There is a sort of "strident meanness" to some atheists; whereas they can and should be nicer. Humanistic Atheists might be a nicer subdivision of Atheism

(8,812 posts)3. We are all atheists
"An atheist is just somebody who feels about Yahweh the way any decent Christian feels about Thor or Baal or the golden calf. As has been said before, we are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further." -- Richard Dawkins
It seems to me that being an atheist is a little like being a vegetarian. People around you are often far more obsessed with the fact than you are yourself.
"But how can you be moral?" is roughly equivalent to "But how do you get your protein?"

Isn't that the point? Why do we need a TV channel?
