Can women truly have it all? Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, whose atypical path to Washington gives her a unique perspective on the work-life debate, weighed in on the hotly debated topic during a recent talk on the #OWNSHOW."The truth is, it is hard," she says.
At age 19, Warren dropped out of college to start a family. After having two children, she finished law school at Rutgers University and built a career teaching law students about bankruptcy. At age 62, she won her seat in the U.S. Senate, a journey which is detailed in her bestseller, A Fighting Chance.

Instead, she says she's focused on her current job in the Senate. "I grew up in a family that didn't have a lot but I got a fighting chance," she says. Now, she wants to give others that same opportunity. "That kids can get an education," she says. "That people who work hard really will be able to earn a wage that will support a family. I want to see us all able to build a secure future, mostly so that we can enjoy our time now and our time with our children."

Brava Senator Elizabeth Warren. We love our great Senator from Massachusetts! She will do what our late, truly missed, Teddy did with that seat. She will make a difference for we the people.
I took this the day I met her, a small gathering in support of then Senate candidate Ed Markey at one of his campaign headquarters.

(27,315 posts)I get infuriated when people talk about women as if they were necessarily the main caretaker. We need to get people to understand it takes generally TWO people to make children, and that as much as possible, these people should be both involved, or at least if they are not it should be something that is decided between them and not imposed on the woman by societal norms. Time to change the way society works so that parents can take care of their kids (and people can take care of their elderly parents).
But this is not an issue limited to women, and, as long as we women will talk of it this way, we will perpetuate the problem.

(83,913 posts)Where are all the Elizabeth Warren supporters of DU? You know, the ones that want EW for President.
She is an amazing woman. I know, because I voted for her as my Senator. Is the silence due to the fact that this article is about women, or maybe the woman that posted it?
I believe she is only being used here to bash Obama. Do not underestimate that woman, she sure as hell will be making a difference for we the people as our Senator.
