I've never thought of Al as "assholish" then nor now he has always had the courage of his convictions, Gore challenged and was willing to debate NAFTA with Perot openly for all the world to see, there was no secrecy as to his position on the issue.

and wasn't even tempted to do so, but I was very grateful that he laid out what he did in the way he did.

No one else in officialdom was saying what he said at the time and I remember it resonating with a lot of people.

This was my one objection to the Clinton-Gore ticket. NAFTA was worse than we ever could have imagined.
