really needs to be smacked repeatedly with a clue by four.

Some parents, deprived of their children for years, finally do come around. I hope for this guy's sake his mother realizes she hasn't been worshiping Jesus, but she's been a great servant of Antichrist in a church that preaches hate.

As for the poor guy, let's hope he manages to find his own family out there among people, gay and straight, who realize he's not broken and doesn't need to be fixed. We're out here, all colors, sexes, shapes, and heights, ready to accept him just as he is.

The most unpleasant people you will ever meet are the people who think bucking for sainthood means they're making everyone around them miserable through pious bullying.

Mama in this video is a shining example of that.

There is so much more to say but can't at the moment. I will say this though if we had more people in the world like him being LGBTQ would be a whole lot easier (and feel free to substitute LGBTQ for any other group to get my meaning).

So to the person in the video.

When I initially saw the video he referenced, In was absolutely aghast at the so-called parents.

What has really filled me with hope, though, has been the way the community has embraced that young man and helped him be able to live on his own, and show such amazing support. We need more of this... not just with the LGBTQ community, but in general. We all become stronger individuals when we support and lift each other up, rather than tear each other down!

More of this!!!

Please remove the Q from GLBT in your post.
.
I do not know why people think they should just start adding this.
It is in my mind, disrespectful to the leaders of the GLBT community who fought for equal rights for the last 40 years.

And no I will not be removing it. At my age and all that I have done for our rights in my lifetime, I've damned well earned the right to do whatever I want.

Have a fabulous day!

Not surprised since we have so many men here telling women how they should act and react to their experiences. So much misogyny here. Oh and AA are told time and time again that racism is dead and white privilege does not exist. Not surprising LGBTQ are being schooled here too.

The most hated schooled groups on DU. LGBT HoF AA BOG. Well at least I am in good company.

~you should be proud of that William, I am no wilting flower myself and yes I am proud of that as well.

Adding the Q after LGBT (not GLBT) is not wrong.
Here's why it got added:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT

The initialism LGBT is intended to emphasize a diversity of sexuality and gender identity-based cultures and is sometimes used to refer to anyone who is non-heterosexual or non-cisgender instead of exclusively to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.[2][5] To recognize this inclusion, a popular variant adds the letter Q for those who identify as queer and/or are questioning their sexual identity as LGBTQ, recorded since 1996.[6]

OK, you have admitted "you don't know," so rather than dictating to a GAY person what he should do, why not ASK why "Q" is added?

It is in my mind, disrespectful to the leaders of the GLBT community who fought for equal rights for the last 40 years.

I may regret this, but....why is this disrespectful?

BTW, our struggle has been longer than 40 years, I suggest some serious reading (second time tonight I have had to make this suggestion) about the history of the GLBTQ struggle. A good place to start: Mattachine Society and Daughters of Bilitis. Of course, our history does go further back, but this is a good place to start with the modern GLBTQ movement.

My mother's cousin (one of many gay men in our family - yes, it's genetic I believe) said, before he died of AIDS back in the 80s, "No one would CHOOSE to be gay." Of course, things were worse back then, but they're still not so great now.
