And that would include the First AND Second Amendments!

(8,101 posts)as am liable by state law if any cattle get on road. That's the law in NV. There is hospital behind me but still cattle roaming on privately held commercial properties.
edited to say...will be most interested how this law suit turns out. But feel it's baseless with all the people I know with severe injuries from hitting cattle at night and the law does not hold the rancher responsible.

(11,945 posts)and libertarianism is the underlying philosophy of the Tea Party. Libertarianism can be quite elegant (though wrong, imo) at the upper echelons of rightwing thought, but at the Bundy level it's merely a macho attitude of "I do what I want and you can't stop me." Followers find that tough and romantic.

(46,337 posts)Bundy has already showed his total contempt for "da rulz" that the rest of us abide by, you really think that asshole will pay any court judgment against him?
lark
(23,115 posts)Take him to court, get a judgement, if he doesn't pay she can garnish any of his bank accounts. She can also have a lien placed on his property, which then can't be sold or inherited until the judgement in full is paid. She has him by the short hairs and needs to pull hard.

If his cattle are a "state responsibility", the state should round them up and butcher the damn things to feed the poor. Problem solved.

There is this thing we all pay to support such great services. It's called a tax. Perhaps you should become familiar with doing your part and not living off the wages of others.
Oh, unless you read a different Bible than the one I read Jesus exalted the poor. He made clear statements about how difficult it would be for a rich man to enter Heaven.

If things don't go well, force the government to bail you out at taxpayer expense.
This is corporate socialism at its best. Bundy should be on Wall Street. He'd fit right in.

(28,947 posts)Nevada has open range laws which generally put the driver at fault for hitting livestock. He argues he has the right to graze the land and not pay even though its very clear that he doesn't. If he were to take responsibility he would be admitting he knows he is in the wrong in putting his cattle on BLM land. One thing he misses is the fact that open range laws in states do not apply to interstates so other ranchers who allow cattle on the interstate are liable. Even if he was allowed to graze land in Nevada he would still have to keep them off the interstates.
