Excellent description by Mike, about american society and the main thing that has driven decisions by the common folk.

Everyone seems to be the enemy.

Fear.

1. By in large, we've become a citizenry of "field mice", afraid of just about everything.

Fear is only present when a person is limited to little or no knowledge about the issue or the subject at the time. Knowledge unlocks fear and provides freedom. It’s always a control method of individuals; you only have to look back to the days before and during WWII with the Nazis and their propaganda machine to see how the masters did it. And now we have the rightwing crazies using the same tactics.

8. Some fear can be constructive, if it leads to better preparations, etc.

But most fears are of things that are out of ones control. Why fear in that case? If there is nothing you can do about it, no preparations to make, etc., it is wasteful and totally unproductive (as well as very scary).

No doubt that frequent exposure to lead without cleaning your hands is part of the RW insanity.
