What Do Heroes Do When They’re Bored? These Two Fly At-Risk Dogs to Safety

When Jonathan Plesset and Brad Childs got pilot licenses in 2004, it didn’t take them long to get restless. Flying around the Pittsburgh metro area quickly became rather dull.

“I mean, how many times are you just going to fly around the city?” Childs told Lancaster Online. “We needed a mission.”

Get ready to like these two guys, because you will. I guarantee it. A mission finally found them, and it’s extraordinary.

Plesset and Childs now spend their weekends flying endangered pets to new homes where they will be safe — and they do it all for free. Their missions of mercy began in 2006 because of a bulldog named Monte.

We're Brad Childs and Jonathan Plesset - the founders of the Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team, better known as PAART. Just a couple of regular guys who are business owners, thrill seekers and animal lovers that started a mission that has taken us on the greatest and most rewarding adventure of our lives. With one plane, a few pilots and volunteers, and a lot of heart, we have successfully transported over 500 rescued dogs and other pets to their "furever" homes, provided thousands of pounds of food and supplies to shelters in need, and raised awareness about the dire condition most people are unaware of that can easily be prevented.

But the more we save, the more we realize how many more animals are living in dire conditions, perhaps only one day from death. We need your help.

Sometimes I unscrew the catch that keeps my window from opening all the way when I want to take pictures from the air. When I did so my dog would stick his nose out of the window. I was hilarious. I sure do miss him.
