NAOUAI: Yes. Absolutely Im talking to you. Who else would I be talking to?
AMANPOUR: Are you talking to me?
NAOUAI: Absolutely.
AMANPOUR: Youve got to be kidding me.
Russias state-funded cable news channel is taking aim at CNN for inviting an RT host to discuss Kremlin politics but editing out her fierce criticisms of the American cable outlet.
In the Know host Anissa Naouai appeared last week on Christiane Amanpours CNN International nightly talk show to defend her network against accusations that it is part of Russian President Vladimir Putins propaganda war. The conversation apparently took a drastic turn for the worse when the guest went after the hosts personal connections to the U.S. Department of State.
Ultimately, Amanpour told Naouai, the most contentious bits were unworthy of airtime and would certainly be edited out. In response to the edits, RT posted video of its half of Naouais satellite feed, showing her answers that were omitted from the final product. CNN posted the full transcript to its website in the interest of transparency; RT did the same.
To be clear: News outlets routinely edit pre-taped interviews normally for timing purposes, but also to cut down on redundancies or rambling questions/answers and so this is not at all an ethical scandal. As a pre-taped show, Amanpour makes its guests aware that they will be edited down for time. This particular interview, as youll see in a moment, happened to go very long.
But considering edits are a common practice in the news business, this story provides a fascinating glimpse into how and why words get left on the cutting room floor.

of Russian government, RT., at least the English language arm, which is important.
And at least RT has more than half a dozen talking heads expert on everything. And they do not give equal air time to scientists and to earnestly held faith believers.
At least RT has not covered a Poop Ship Cruise 24/7 for a week, followed by a missing airplane coverage incessantly for another full week.
Who is the most propagandizing channel is hard to tell, but censoring criticism, isn't that what dictatorial states do?
edit: RT is broadcast in English only, so Russians do not get their news from RT. It is like saying
Americans get their news from Russian language broadcasts of Radio America.
And Aranpour is a State Department tool just like others at CNN are Pentagon tools, CIA tools and NSA tools, the whole network is a toolbox for the State.

(18,124 posts)explained our bought off MSM media, as represented by Amanpour succinctly and truthfully. She explained RT quite clearly. All media is propaganda but RT is not the criminal media here. Amanpour has egg on her face. I love it.....

(1,917 posts)hell, most of the people in the US think it's the OTHER guy's government that's doing all propagandizing.
When our new and shiny M$M is telling them every thing they want them to hear.
There was another post about all lies all the time...
This is the Amerika we were warned about.

(6,419 posts)No good to make overbig words like "this lady true journalist." When you going too far, people suspect.

(18,998 posts)When people do their job it is not over the top to say they are doing what journalist are supposed to do.
But I do suppose we live in a world that no longer remembers what journalism is supposed to be...they are now entertainers.

(6,419 posts)You're saying a ranting, Kremlin-paid RT news model is doing "what journalist are supposed to do" but Amanpour, one of the most respected names in TV news, is just an entertainer?
How's the weather in Topsyturvistan?

(6,419 posts)Interviews are always edited for time and quality. Given this freak Anissa Naouai's fucking diatribe in support of a dictatorship and its propaganda outlets, it's no surprise that ended it up on the cutting room floor. CNN doesn't have the responsibility to let a Kremlin propagandist go on and on and on. My god--if RT didn't exist, creepy news models like this Naouai would have to work for some cult like Scientology.

(22,000 posts)She looked like she was about 5 inches from totally losing it on air. For someone from RT to outright deny that Putin made the comment about not messing with them because they have nuclear weapons is insane.

Maybe Tom Cruise is looking for a new wife. They could start a Scientology network together.

(16,399 posts)I wonder if she talks about Putin and his administration's anti-gay and racist attitudes. I bet she doesn't. Probably makes up a bunch of excuses and lies like they always do. Keep taking that Kremlin money, you fucking little fraud.

(20,453 posts)What I mean is, "What a good little job CNN, Faux, NBC, CBS, and ABC networks did to glorify US military aggression over the last over 25 years". Our media never probed the monied interests and military budgets behind everything we have done in the name of freedom. Corporations meanwhile over-took this media, as well as the airwaves. What a bunch of dumbed down Americans have resulted in the timespan of another generation. The monied interests as a result of this have infiltrated the halls of US Congress, replacing what fewer and fewer voters of every Congressional District have ask their United States representatives to stand for in their name.
Talk about fraud!
