(5,376 posts)Back in the mid-60s, I worked as a call-taker/dispatcher in the GE appliance service repair center in Denver, pretty much paid my way through college. I recall the time GE came out with a free-standing garbage disposer and I took one to my Mom to try out. She thought it was a bit of all right, but apparently not many others did, because after I returned it, I never heard of it again. Kinda hoped it would show up in this video. Anyway, it was quite an experience, listening to complaints about GE products gone wrong, with the occasional super-angry caller telling me where I could put their malfunctioning refer, d/w, range, etc. etc. Being young, naive and Baptist, took me awhile to figure out just what they were talking about. Ha.
Thanks for posting this video. Took me back, gave me some chuckles and also reminded me of how much I used to enjoy watching the GE College Bowl. Them's were the days!

This is the version where Rudolph was forced to leave the North Pole and told of his adventures where he meets Yukon Cornelius, travels to the Island of Misfit Toys and stumbles across the Abominable Snowman who is mean because he has a toothache.
On a different take, GE seems to be at the forefront on the War on Women as all these gifts were meant to keep the little woman happy in their kitchen and/or cleaning roles.
BTW, GE sure was big on sharpening knives.
