PATERSON The city teachers union plans to file a complaint over a determination that a teacher attacked by a student in his classroom was healthy enough to return to work, the organization said Wednesday.
The assault was captured in a YouTube video, which allegedly shows a 16-year-old freshman at John F. Kennedy High School grab the 62-year-old teacher, yank him backwards and slam him to the floor last week in a classroom as other students looked on.
Paterson Education Association President Peter Tirri said the school districts medical provider found the teacher could return to work.
I dont know how thats possible, Tirri said of the decision. Its clear that this man was body slammed with the kid on top of him and its clear that his head hit a desk as he was going down.

(4,033 posts)Here's a 14 (approx) year old kid who has so little impulse control that he body slams a 62 year old teacher? I know the first thing I would have done would have been to grind his cell phone under my heel and confiscated any and all electronics - computer, tablet, XBox, Playstation, etc - and removed any TV in his room. Then I would have told him that the next time he would be able to own a phone would be after grew up, moved into his own place and bought the phone out of his own paycheck.
Of course this would have been AFTER I contacted my insurance company and made sure they were paying any and all medical bills the teacher incurred! And put them on notice that there was a damn good chance that a lawsuit was coming my way. Then I would have hauled ass down to the school to meet with the principal to see what the school wanted to do - expel, suspend, etc., and to let them know how embarassed I was to have been such a lousy parent and to let them know that I would support fully their decisions.
