Creationists, such as Christian extremist Kevin Ham, are up in arms over Carnival Cruise's Come Back To The Sea Super Bowl commercial. The ad features an amazing speech delivered by President John F. Kennedy, which led them to attack the cruise ship company

(17,863 posts)While I firmly accept the scientific evidence of Darwinian evolution, it is not a good practice to challenge the deeply held beliefs of a good portion of your customer base.
A bigger concern for me was using a dead President's speech to sell cruises. It is unseemly and tacky.
I don't think they will sell anymore cruises from this advertisement, and I would be surprised if they don't lose some customers because of it.
Still it was probably better than the Nationwide dead kid ad.

(6,476 posts)That's exactly what needs to happen, it's a good commercial and the wankers have no fucking say. Fuck them! We don't live in a theocracy (or do we!?), they can stop with this nonsense. Why do they get press with this?

(9,118 posts)I have little sympathy for whiny creationists alledging persecution because Carnival Corp decided to use an old JFK speech. As far as I'm concerned the Biblical Literalists and Inerrantists made up their boogeyman by insisting that their interpretation of the Bible must be held true by believers.
They should shut up and put on their big-girl panties. Eff them if they can't take a joke.

Now if only our politicians would stop pandering to them. And our advertisers would respect more than money.

(464 posts)I love the quote from JFK...
I would never go on a cruise though...don't want to be around all those people.
The guy in the background doing the voice was hysterical.
