Papantonio: Corporate America’s Psychological Gambit

Corporations have never been shy about spending money to buy politicians, but lately they’ve decided that buying favors isn’t enough, and now they are spending money to buy your opinions.

lobbying laws".

Just 350 million dollars in one year was transferred by one oil industry lobbying group alone into the pocket of corporate media to buy ads to target low information viewers who will believe anything they are told if told often enough.

Hence, as a topical example, the massive propaganda push to convince folks that lower energy prices for the greatest consumer of energyin the world is bad for the overall economy.....yes, they are and it is sad so see so many weak minds collapse under the frontal assault of lies.

It is a vicious and fascist vicious circle of bribery and lies and massive corruption of ideas and politicians and the media...by their mutual consent.

those ads pro-fracking turned my stomach. Advertising and PR firms are colluding with the corporations in putting out false and damaging information to the public. By all means, they should be in court with their clients.

More likely, much like wars and other un-democratic actions, they act first and then mold the "facts" around their prior actions.

For example the decision to invade Iraq was made THEN they went and sold it to about half of the American public.

Some of this PR is to help maintain the illusion of democracy and help the congress members who vote against the interests of their peasants -- it works parallel to the lobbying to cushion them from any blowback at the ever-less-important ballot box and the much more important (to Corporations) marketplace. The marketplace, for example consumer boycotts, is likely the greater concern of companies like BP.
