2. I watched this on Lawrence last night----absolutely chilling!

I live in a progressive area of this state and found myself horrified that such a person in my state would say such medieval rantings. Everyone should watch this in order to better understand evangelical thinking. I can't believe people actually go to his church. He completely lied in his apology.

Just a couple of things- Don't reach for stuff that isn't there. He's given you plenty to work with without having to resort to right wing tactics.

Viz:
The "squashed" comment: It was plain to me that he wasn't saying you should squash your kids. He was saying you should squash the 'aberrant' behavior & nip it in the bud.

The "smell like a girl" comment: Again, taken in context, he's talking about girls who play sports and who are getting too "butch". He's saying you should force them to be more 'feminine' (Obviously his definition of feminine) I understood the "smell like a girl" remark to mean don't be all sweaty from playing sports and wear perfume.

This guy's comments were plenty appalling without resorting to inventing things. We've spent the last couple of months in this forum bashing Rush Limbaugh for doing exactly that. Don't fall into that trap.

On the plus side, this is the first time I've heard that last clip where he's injecting politics into the sermon. Kudos for leaving that in. It takes this thing to a whole new level.

Lastly- everybody listen to the the murmurs of approval from the audience when this clown is giving his sermon. That is maybe as disturbing as anything else in the clip.

I caught the "squashed" part, I missed the smell like a girl part.

I thought why is that necessary? It made me wonder if O'Donnell meant anything he said.

15. I think you've mistaken my point, so I'll reiterate

The 'talk like a girl walk like a girl etc' remark is indeed offensive -just as the whole tirade is- my issue is that the phrase 'smell like a girl' should be isolated and used to suggest the guy is a pedophile. That's a very serious accusation. In today's climate it's one of the most serious -if not the most serious, depending on how you look at it- things one can be accused of. I would have no trouble believing this guy is a closeted self-hating homosexual. That's become so par for the course with these super right wing gay-bashers it's almost cliché. But I'm going to require more evidence before we start throwing around suggestions of pedophilia. That's not something to be done lightly.

I'll stand by mine. He's using a lot of violent rhetoric, and there's no excuse for that. I just disagree with O'Donnell (and you too, I guess) on what he meant when he said "squashing that like a cockroach". I guess "that" must refer to the son and not the behavior...
