2. This really IS a warning of a Doomsday...

Why haven't we driven fossil fuels out of the state in Pennsylvania after this and all the other "350" based facts regarding toxic levels?

It's HERE and if we act like it isn't … maybe some of us reading this won't be doomed, but their progeny certainly will.

I acquired a heat pump when getting our next water heater, I've joined anti-fracking coalitions in this state and STILL!

as HELL that we are still battling the fascists who for some reason don't worry about THEIR next generations!

3. The green solution will never happen

People just aren't motivated by vague dangers in the distant future, especially when the climate scientists hem and haw had hedge their bets and back away from making realistic statements about the dangers.

My own personal opinion is that it is already far too late, perhaps 10 or 15 years too late, to do anything to prevent catastrophe. Industrial civilization is doomed. It's really that simple. I give it another 50 years at the very most.

4. If we stopped all burning of fossil fuels tonight, we'd still go past 2 degrees of warming.

It will take decades to establish a new equilibrium with the amount of CO2 already in the atmosphere. And then there are those nasty tipping points we have activated: darkening of Greenland ice sheet, loss of arctic sea ice, fewer days with snow cover in Canada and Siberia, permafrost melting in Canada and Siberia releasing methane, methane clathrates in the continental shelves releasing their methane, longer wildfire seasons burning up more trees and putting that carbon in the atmosphere, and threatening the business-as-usual model of oil companies leading to them lobbying forcefully to prevent any action on global warming.

That last one sounds like a jokey punchline, but it's the worst of the lot. Because of that one, we won't stop blowing megatons of CO2 into the atmosphere for the foreseeable future. In thirty years, we will pass 500 ppm of CO2.
