Related: About this forumJohn Fitgerald Kennedy's Peace Speech at American University
JFK would have been 98 today; remember him and remember when a president could really talk like this?
"The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were and ask "why not?"."

A president could not, and can not articulate those principles and values and survive. OTOH sell the masses pablum like "the shining city on the hill" and you are guaranteed sainthood.

I feel lucky to have been alive while he was president. It was real hope for a real future..

(6,384 posts)4. One of the great speeches by any President, anywhere.
I wish world leaders now would reflect on his words: "We all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children's futures, and we are all mortal".
Amen to that.
I still miss him.
