This video took my breath away. Watch Eastern Michigan University students Darius Simpson and Scout Bostley speak for each otherand show us a thing or two about privilege:

(19,053 posts)I know a thing or two about lost voices and outsiders speaking for me and people like me.
When I speak up for adoptee rights and the history of adoption as it is practiced today, a sea of voices quickly pounce to silence my voice. They tell me that I am attacking adoptive parents when I demand that I have equal access to my original birth documents even though what I am speaking of has nothing to do with adoptive parents. At every turn, every fact that write is dismissed for one prejudiced reason or another.
I read a powerful article today that explained non-adoptee privilege but chose not to post it here because it mentions adoptive parents. I constantly self censor because of other people's willful ignorance.
At least on a progressive message board we pretend to care about women's and POC rights and issues. That cannot be said about adoptee rights. Here the most horrid things can be said about adoptees and natural mothers and very few here have ever stood with us.
