Obama Will Win on TPP — We’re Screwed

The Senate is about to pass Fast Track legislation now that 13 Democrats have turned tail to vote to end cloture. This means that President Obama is only days away from getting the power to pass the TPP without the help of Congress. Mike Papantonio and Ed Schultz discuss the potential disasters that will arise when this thing becomes a reality.

I distinctly remember that one of the key parts of the treaty/agreement was voted down a few weeks ago. Much celebration here on DU.

I would like to hear someone explain the reversal. Was it a strategic misdirection?

8. "Misdirection" is the only word you need to know about the entire TPA/TPP "debate" on DU. You missed little.

I never have nor did I ever believe in anything in our 3rd way "New Democrat" has ever said. Since the beginning of his presidency he failed.

I bet George Bush would have capitalized on the small window of opportunity that BO had when he had control of both houses.

That's probably not fair of me. Likely the jobs overseas is an unfortunate side effect of an insatiable drive for corporate profits. Maybe if we would just hit the adjustment and start collecting our $0.50 per hour this would all make much more sense. I guess then american labor would once again be a driver of corporate profits. Until then we are a human resource. . . A cost to be minimized. Thanks Obama.

Arguing that Obama is a Manchurian Candidate that won, or that Candidate Clinton is the next one, is no argument at all.

is going to be a difficult sell here at home.

Obama's allegiance is to the elite Wall Street CEO's.

They're making deals at the top. They have no idea about how this will
impact American workers.

Totally agree, Obama is being pushed on this TPP by the national security state
so that we can compete with China.

Obama's biggest supporters for TPA/TPP were John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.

Nuff said.

not the American people who elect our representatives. But it's great for the financial globalization, income and racial inequality, climate change and pollution that's destroying people and the earth.

It's shameful, as Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said yesterday on the Senate floor after the vote. "This was a day of celebration in the corporate suites in this country" Brown added.
