He doesn't have any real potential as a demagogue. It's a hobby for him and entertainment for us. Even as a racist, he doesn't articulate what they want to hear. All he's got is a generic "close the border" line, to which he tacked a fairly unimaginative note about "they're sending the bad people over." He doesn't have the personal heft to add any momentum to the standard nativist lines. And border crossings are down anyway. It's an old conservative hot button issue with a swiftly expiring shelf life.

Ted Cruz. Paul Ryan. Mike Huckabee. These are demagogues who would hurt people, given the chance. Tie a woman down and force her to give birth; that sort of thing. Start a war for fun and profit. They are smart enough and ugly enough to pull off genuine evil, given the opportunity.

Trump is comic relief.
