Following another tragic movie theater shooting, Rick Perry is calling for more people to buy guns and bring them to movie theaters. Despite the mountain of data showing that fewer guns lead to fewer murders, Republicans always want more. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"On Sunday, Rick Perry attempted to stand out from the (already spectacularly incompetent) pool of GOP hopefuls with one of the dumbest responses to the Lafayette shooting yet. In an interview with CNN, the Texas governor said that it makes a lot of sense to allow more people to carry guns into gun-free zones like movie theaters.
From Perrys interview:
I will suggest to you that these concepts of gun-free zones are a bad idea. I think that you allow the citizens of this country, who have appropriately trained, appropriately backgrounded, know how to handle and use firearms, to carry them."*

(6,866 posts)Do we have any anecdotal evidence of good guys with guns taking out bad guys with guns in the act of committing mass murders? Has something like that ever happened?

(11,121 posts)And another time terrorists took over a hockey arena and a guy with a Belgian accent kicked their butts.
And a rogue CIA agent with a team of evildoers took control of a battleship, and a cook, who was a former Navy SEAL, retook the ship.
And several times, this one agent with the Counter Terrorism Unit stopped terrorist plots almost in the nick of time. He shot a lot of bad guys and tortured many of them, too. And the ones he tortured always told him the truth. Sure, the terrorists blew up an airliner, and a nuclear plant, and assassinated a president, but the CTU agent always "won," sort of.
I think all those cases had documentary films made about them.

Who would want to go to the movies knowing that there are a bunch of armed yahoos in there waiting for trouble?

(489 posts)but he has very powerful and important people to answer to, mainly the NRA and the gun manufacturers which run the NRA, so his response while completely ridiculous and irresponsible, makes perfect sense.
