Trump resonates with that base. None of the other clowns did much of anything to garner more support.

Looking at it through a liberal prism we would say Trump was awful and so were the rest. But Trump's target group isn't liberal.

What it says it that a lot of the republican base doesn't want mealy mouthed politicians who just hint at what the base wants. They want someone who will come out and say it for all to hear. Trump does that.
