Fear is a powerful motivator, and fear of the "other" is an easy one to tap into. Trump is doing very well with hos one-note song, blaming everything on immigrants. He doesn't even have to specify what is wrong, whether the immigrants are legal or illegal, etc. All he has to do is invoke "THEM!" and people respond to the dog whistle.
