impassioned, amazing, and moving. I think the prayer session and applause were genuine and sincere.
I can't imagine that it could have gone any better then that.

It worked because he's really very plainspoken and just explained his idea to this very different audience in simple plain language.

I agree that he's plainspoken and just explained his ideas to this very different audience in simple plain language. People with open hearts appreciate very much when someone does that, even when they disagree passionately on some issues. I was struck not only by the positive reception he received during his speech, but also with the questions which were very direct and his answers which were equally direct as well.

I believe this is something for Jewish people to consider. You have a unique position in the eyes of Fundamentalists as the Chosen People of the Book. Whenever I am with Fundamentalists, I can't help noticing that they seem to hover and alight in the Bible here and there, much as dragonflies do, searching for a tasty tidbit. They use it selectively to reinforce and defend their own ancestral heritage. They totally miss all of the chapters railing against pride, greed, pollution, bribery, corruption, snobbery, rule by kings, and oppression of poor people. You can help them by doing exactly what Bernie did here. It sort of reminds them that, hey, there are some other people who read these ancient books, only they read all of them and really know what they say. Especially if you can quote the Hebrew to them. That really blows their minds.
