Related: About this forumJames Carville on Sandra Bullock playing him: ‘What the hell, why not?’
The gender-bending casting of Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock in the role based on Democratic operative James Carville in Our Brand is Crisis is being hailed as a victory for women in Hollywood seeking substantive roles too often reserved for men.
Also applauding the choice is Carville himself, who tells us he hasnt seen the movie, which is based on a 2005 documentary of the same name about American political consultants hired to bring slick campaigning to a Bolivian election, but loves the idea of a woman and Bullock in particular playing him. What the hell, why not? he asked. Its great.
Bullock, he notes, is beloved in his own hometown of New Orleans. The actress has adopted the Crescent City as her home base, buying a historic home there and donating money to post-Hurricane Katrina rebuilding.
Beyond supporting the idea of better movie roles for women, Carville has another, slightly less noble reason to like the casting decision: Its a bit flattering. Shes better-looking than Billy Bob Thornton, Ill tell you that, he says, recalling the actor who last portrayed him onscreen in the 1998 political drama Primary Colors.

I didn't know they made a movie out of Primary Colors. I've read that a couple of times. I'll have to look for the movie.
