(13,297 posts)He's not always there, but the times when he is, he doesn't back down and I also give him credit for reaching out to Jorge Ramos at the end to shake his hand. He knows the issues are the battleground and not the people. He's a debater, not a fighter and it shows when you get on a show like this with some folks who just don't want to back down.
I have to give Maher some credit as well -- I don't know how he manages to not cut the mic on guests sometimes. Pataki was a complete nonsense-generating machine with no off switch.

(50,983 posts)I don't think he really understood the agenda of the Neo-Cons. Sad.
A Simple Game
(9,214 posts)I had read that Maher was anti Muslim and hadn't really noticed it before, but in this show it was obvious.

(50,983 posts)I like Maher but like everyone else he has his negatives too. We demand perfection! LOL.
A Simple Game
(9,214 posts)gave a pretty good slam to liberals too. He still remains in my good column but dropped down quite a bit with this show.

(7,875 posts)STFU Pataki! I remember Republicans blaming Clinton for 9/11. Some of them probably now even believe that Clinton was president when it happened.
And remember this?
Can't wait to hear Trump's response to Pataki calling him unfit to be president though...
And correction in video 8, Bill- We didn't get rid of a dictator in Iran. We put a dictator in.
Pataki: "People had greater confidence in our future when Raygun was president"
Me: "They didn't realize Ronnie was spending their retirement money."

(4,113 posts)Fact: Under Reagan, we tripled the national debt, had record budget deficits, no balanced budgets, the U.S. went from world's largest creditor nation to largest debtor nation, and we had record trade deficits. Oh yeah - we had 11 tax increases under Reagan.
Perception: Reagan reduced the size of government.
Fact: The federal government increased its size by 9% under Reagan.
Perception: Reagan ended the Cold War
Fact: The end of the Cold War was a culmination of 40-some years of developments under other leaders of the U.S. and other countries. Reagan just happened to occupy the White House when the fall of the Soviet Union and its allies became visible to the West. This leap in logic that Reagan ended the Cold War would be like me looking up in the night sky and seeing a comet and concluding that I caused that comet to appear. No, I just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Perception: Under Reagan, the U.S. was strong at home and abroad.
Fact: Remember Beirut? Hezbollah's terrorist attack on a U.S. Marine compound resulted in 242 American deaths. Then, under Reagan's orders, the U.S. got the hell out of there. Can you imagine what the dialog would be in Washington and in the RW media if those things had happened under Obama's or any other Democrat's watch?
Perception: Reagan was a family values conservative.
Fact: Reagan is our only divorced president. Check the date that he and Nancy were married and check the date that their first child Patti was born (I'll give you a hint: the two events were less than 9 months apart). While governor of California, Reagan signed legislation that liberalized access to abortions. And that was before Roe v. Wade, so there was no federal mandate that needed to be followed when he signed off on that bill.

And, that clock doesn't look anything like a bomb... Any bomb needs and explosive to work. The only thing the clock has in common with a bomb is that they both have circuit boards. So does most every electronic devise that exists these days: my watch, my laptop computer, my cell phone, my nook, my mp3 player... And those are things that most of us carry around all the time.
