The leaders of the G8 conference, assembled this weekend at Camp David, Maryland, took a break to watch the riveting overtime shootout of the Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich Champions League soccer final today.
CAMP DAVID, Md. -- Like millions of televisions around the world, the one in Barack Obama's presidential cabin at Camp David was tuned in to Chelsea's dramatic penalty shootout Champions League victory against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Obama, joined by more partisan viewers in the form of British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, took a break from discussing fiscal crises and war to watch the thriller in Munich.
The White House said the three leaders and others watched the overtime shootout, which was ended in clinical fashion by Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.
The White House confirmed that there was some playful "trash talk" -- or sledging -- between rival fans.
Although Cameron supports Aston Villa -- who languished near the bottom of the English Premier League -- he will no doubt claim Chelsea's victory.
At a G-8 summit in Canada two years ago, Cameron and Merkel watched Germany thump England 4-1 in a World Cup match in South Africa.
It is now 1-1 on aggregate between the leaders from London and Berlin.
