12. When I saw this on Facebook, there was more tragedy... She had to

swim all the way out to the little boat in the background and then row it to find someone who could give her a ride to town to get her kayak repaired.

Frankly, I think she should have headed for a safe spot when she first saw the bear and saved the pepper spray for when and if the bear tried to attack.

The bear was just giving her a little payback for the pepper spray.

In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear confrontations, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and be alert for bears while in the field. ...We advise that outdoorsmen wear small bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them, and to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter....

It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain lots of berries. Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in it and smell like pepper.

Olive Oyl in a tizzy. The bear might not have taken to chewing on her kayak if she hadn't sprayed it with the pepper spray, seems her pleading was an annoyance at some point. If she had actually given the bear a good dose of the spray, the would likely have evacuated much sooner. Just spraying in the general direction is not good enough for sending the ear off on its way.

Looks like there was some kind of attractant in the kayak, as evidenced by the stuff on the ground near the kayak. At least she did have the spray with her, nut if you don't know how to use it, it's not worth a penny.

I think the bear was annoyed at her yelling and was just going to keep on chewing up her kayak until she got quiet. Could have been worse.

because I couldn't stand to see what the hunters were doing to try to destroy his research.

I did see the birth of Hope, Lily's cub, several years ago. Sadly, Hope was killed by a hunter, even tho', if memory serves, she was wearing a radio collar complete with multi-colored streamers. I can't talk about it, rationally.

Lynn has been at odds with the DNR in MN for some time. Hunters' needs must be protected, don'tcha know.

Lynn used to walk up to the bears in the woods and say, "It's me, bear". They know him. He could collar them with little problem.
