(10,279 posts)The gutless GOP non-Tea Party members made a huge mistake in letting the 40 Tea Party members dictate the removal of Boehner. They showed that they are vulnerable and the Tea Party is coming from them.

(9,350 posts)The Twenty-fifth Amendment (Amendment XXV) to the United States Constitution deals with succession to the Presidency and establishes procedures both for filling a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, as well as responding to Presidential disabilities. It supersedes the ambiguous wording of Article II, Section 1, Clause 6 of the Constitution, which does not expressly state whether the Vice President becomes the President or Acting President if the President dies, resigns, is removed from office or is otherwise unable to discharge the powers of the presidency.[1] The Twenty-fifth Amendment was adopted on February 10, 1967.[2]

Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.
Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

(9,350 posts)I think Joan Walsh and Tamron Hall let the Republican guy get away with changing the debate. He made the debate about how much ones family means to them as opposed to someone refusing to perform certain job functions in order to spend time with their family. I realize the guy was talking all over Joan Walsh, and that is where I think Tamron Hall went wrong; she should have forced him to quietly let Walsh give her opinion. However, Joan Walsh was right. No woman could have done what Paul Ryan just did. The only qualifier I would add is that maybe a Democratic man could not get away with such a request. However, the criticism of the Democratic man would be that he is acting like a woman.
For years we have seen people question whether Hillary Clinton being a grandmother will affect her ability to be President. If a woman said that she would not do the major functions of her job because she wanted the ability to spend time with her family, many people (mainly Republican men) would be in an uproar and would say that is the reason women should not be in leadership positions.
