Just Because: President Obama's Victory Speech, 2008

I'm a teacher, and my winter break is ending soon. I should be planning and making newsletters so that my class can have a great start to a new year, but instead, in my dedication to honing procrastination to an art form, I spent the day reviewing President Obama's last eight years (including the last year his campaign), mostly in speeches. Here's his victory speech in Chicago after his first successful campaign in 2008. What a moment! I went through a whole lot of Kleenex tonight.

Click for the transcript of the 2008 victory speech.

In L.A., watching it on MSNBC with one of my good friends (an old hippie, VW bus and all, who had been voting for the Green Party candidate since at least 1980).

The rest was just as Clint "the chair-man" Eastwood described it: Oprah was crying, everyone was crying. I very seldom cry (even when I should); but I definitely felt them welling up that night.

Thanks for the memory, and Happy New Year!
