3. "Big Government" to Republicans is Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Medicare....

....anything that the government does that helps people.

They believe you should work until you DIE.

Reagan talked about "Big Government" in the abstract. He invoked the image of millions of nameless faceless bureaucrats pushing paper and creating piles of red tape like in the movie "Brazil".



It was another example of Republicans presenting themselves as our heroes against a phantom enemy.
